Rio de Janeiro floods and mudslides


Every year, normaly in January (the warmer month during the year) many states and the cities of Brazil suffer from floods and mudslides.
A series of floods and mudslides took place in January 2011 in several towns of the Mountainous Region in the state of Rio de Janeiro and the city most affected was Teresopolis. The floods caused at least 378 deaths and a lot of people lost their houses. This tragedy became the worst natural disaster in Brazilian history. The desaster cost the government $1,2 bilion USD).
